We like spirits that taste great, but we LOVE spirits that also think about their impact on the planet. So we have created a collection of some of those spirits, and what changes they have made for a more planet friendly future.
The production philosophy at Absolut Vodka is ‘One Source’, which means that every aspect of the production journey takes place in and around the village of Åhus, Sweden. Every ingredient is sourced locally, from water to wheat; one water source, one village and one community.
The first Scotch whisky distillery to achieve @bcorpuscan certification, meaning they put people and purpose before profit. Bruichladdich practices sustainable agriculture with transparency and accountability, and they’re aiming to decarbonize their distilling by 2025, developing green hydrogen technology that doesn’t emit carbon or greenhouse gases - a renewable alternative to traditional fuels.
In 2021 Diageo opened their first carbon-neutral distillery to produce Bulleit bourbon and rye whiskeys. Located in Kentucky it’s one of the largest distilleries of its kind in North America and operates using 100% renewable energy. Designed with sustainability at its core, the technology used allows the distillery to avoid approximately more than 117,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually, the equivalent of taking more than 25,000 cars off the road for a year!
Another distillery to receive B Corp accreditation, Makers Mark is the largest to date, and the first in Bourbon Country. Staying true to their ethos to “Make Your Mark. Leave No Trace.” the company make comprehensive efforts to leave nothing harmful behind. This includes their zero-landfill initiative to repurpose or recycle all waste at the distillery, including pulverising used bottles into sand for hiking trails across their property.
